Home » New York Cruise FAQs » Does the Statue of Liberty cruise include entry to the statue?
Answer: This question often confuses many travelers, so let’s try to clarify things and make it easier to understand: there are two types of cruises related to the Statue of Liberty - the first is a ferry to the statue, and the second is a sightseeing cruise that passes by the statue.
If you want to actually visit the statue, you’ll need to take a special ferry, which is the only option to to the statue. The ferry stops at Liberty Island and allows you to disembark and explore the statue, including the option to go up inside and enjoy the breathtaking view. While the ferry ride is enjoyable, it’s not a “cruise” in the full sense of the word - it feels more like riding a bus.
If, on the other hand, you choose the second option - a sightseeing cruise to the Statue of Liberty - this cruise does not allow you to disembark at Liberty Island, but it does stop for a few minutes right near the statue so you can take in the view and snap photos. After that, the cruise continues and passes by other landmarks such as Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, and New York’s famous bridges.
